SUU Men’s Basketball Hosts Weber State Thursday

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailCEDAR CITY, Utah-Thursday, Southern Utah men’s basketball (12-7, 5-3 in Big Sky Conference play) hosts in-state rival Weber State (7-13, 3-6 in Big Sky play) at the America First Event Center for a 7:00 pm tip-off.The Thunderbirds are tied with Northern Colorado for third place in the Big Sky Conference standings with the Wildcats currently in ninth place.Todd Simon (48-70, .407) is in his fourth season as SUU’s head coach and is ensuing in his best season to date at the helm.The Thunderbirds score 74.5 points per game as they are tied with Memphis for 102nd nationally in scoring offense.Redshirt senior guard-forward Cameron Oluyitan leads SUU in scoring (13.8 points per game) and steals (27).Junior guard John Knight III (13.1 points per game, a team-best 44 assists) and redshirt senior forward Dwayne Morgan (11.1 points per game) each score in double figures on-average for the Thunderbirds as well.Sophomore guard Harrison Butler (6.9 rebounds per game) leads the Thunderbirds on the glass and SUU is paced in blocked shots by redshirt senior center, Senegalese national Daoude (David) N’Diaye, with 20.The Thunderbirds surrender 63.1 points per game, tying them for 40th nationally in scoring defense with Texas Christian.Weber State is coached by Randy Rahe who is 273-166 (.622) and in his 14th season at the helm is both the Wildcats and the Big Sky Conference’s winning-est head coach.Weber State scores 71.1 points per game, ranking the Wildcats 190th nationally in scoring offense.Senior guard Jerrick Harding (21.9 points per game) is Weber State’s leading scorer on the season. Harding and freshman guard KJ Cunningham have 40 assists apiece to lead Weber State in that category.Fellow senior back-court mate Cody John (14.1 points per game) remains the Wildcats’ only other double figure scorer on the season.Junior forward, Czech national Michal Kozak leads Weber State on the glass (5.7 rebounds per game) and in blocked shots (27).Freshman guard Judah Jordan leads the Wildcats in steals with 23.Weber State surrenders 70.9 points per game, ranking the Wildcats 223rd nationally in scoring defense.The Wildcats lead the Thunderbirds 32-10 all-time and 10-6 all-time at Cedar City.
