Fake white van abduction foiled

He said that a group of six males, claiming that they were from the security forces, had abducted a family of four (father, mother and two children) from Thunmankerni on Tuesday.  People in the area have alerted the Army and in turn the police in the area had been alerted. At Manoonai, the police seized a White Van with 10 passengers which included 6 abductors and 4 victims.  The man sitting in the front seat who was involved in the crime had claimed that they were going to an Army Camp in the Akkaraipattu area. The army says a group of men have been arrested when they posed as security forces personnel and abducted a family in Batticaloa in a white van.Army spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that the police had arrested the men at Manmoonai in Batticaloa. On being further questioned the group of six abductors had confessed that they carried out the abduction due to a personal dispute.  The Kaththankuddi police is carrying out further investigations.“This is yet another attempt by criminal elements to use the security forces as their cover and if not for this timely arrest there would have been many allegations leveled against the security forces by the interested parties.  This time there was a timely alert which helped police in arresting the culprits,” the army spokesman said.
