High School Athletics Championship Friday

first_imgTwenty high schools in and out of Monrovia are expected to participate in the 2016 High School Athletics Championship set for Friday, April 8, at the UL Fendell Campus. It was rescheduled from March 8, to April 8.The championship begins at 8: am and the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) said the championship would bring about 200 athletes in the one-day event.LAF Vice President for Technical Affairs, Frederick B. Krah told journalists over the weekend in Monrovia that the Liberian government has not supported the program.He stated that two prominent Liberians have donated two golden trophies and despite the financial challenges the championship will be held. Mr. Krah, who is the Secretary General of the LAF pointed out that they would strive and underwrite the championship to make it successful.
 He said the High School Athletic Championship is to encourage students in athletics and scout talents for clubs and the national teams.
”We will in our weak way solicit funds to stage the High School Athletic Championship on Friday and before then we will name and thank those who will contribute to our efforts,” Krah said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Krah has revealed that the LAF has been invited to the West Africa Regional Athletics Championship in Kenemah, Sierra Leone from April 23 – 24 and 20 athletes have been in camp for a month with seven to be selected for the trip.He indicated that Karder Anders, Liberia’s lone local based who qualified for the Brazil Olympics will be part of the team to Sierra Leone to train at the Kenemah facilities.
