UFC sold for 4 billion

first_imgUFC has gone from being labeled “human cockfighting” to the goose that laid the golden egg. Sunday, it was announced that Dana White and Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta have sold the UFC to an investment group led by the mega talent agency WME-IMG for approximately $4 billion. White had recently denied the pending sale.In 2001, Dana White and the Fertitta brothers purchased the fledgling bloodsport for a mere $2 million. The sport has grown exponentially in the face of legislative opposition from the likes of Senator John McCain, who labeled it “human cockfighting, and the New York State Athletic Commission, which, until recently, had refused to sanction fights in the state. With White at the head of the organization, UFC has gained a foothold in the mainstream sports world with a revolving stable of marketable superstars, from Randy Couture and Chuck Lidell, to Ronda Rousey, and Conor McGregor. The deal WME allows for White to continue to serve as President and continue his role of promoting and organizing fights. White joined the Herd and discussed the topic of a potential UFC sale in May. Advertisementlast_img read more
