Paraguayan security forces seize large amounts of cocaine and marijuana

first_img Paraguay’s National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) seized 3.4 tons of marijuana and 1.1 kilograms of cocaine in the city of Pedro Juan Caballero, in the department of Amambay. The marijuana and cocaine were stashed in a residence and would have been smuggled into Brazil, according to a SENAD report. SENAD is investigating to learn the identity of the drug traffickers. Security forces made the seizure less than four months after SENAD confiscated more than 100 tons of marijuana in Pedro Juan Caballero that were packaged and ready to be trafficked into Brazil. During that operation, they also destroyed 174 hectares of marijuana plants, which could have yielded more than 500 tons of marijuana. By Dialogo September 09, 2014 Colombian Army eradicates 215,000 coca plants Mexico – U.S. drug ring dismantled center_img The Colombian Army said they eradicated 215,000 coca plants it suspects belonged to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the department of Cauca. Soldiers from Task Force Apolo carried out the operation in the village of Las Brisas in the municipality of Buenos Aires. The Army’s Third Division said in a statement that soldiers suspect the coca belonged to the FARC’s Miller Perdomo Column. Coca is the primary ingredient used to produce cocaine. Colombian security forces carried out several successful operations against suspected FARC drug operations during the summer. In June, Colombian counter-narcotics police destroyed two cocaine laboratories and seized more than 810 kilograms of cocaine worth more than $1.5 million (USD). Police said they suspect the laboratories and cocaine belonged to the FARC’s Jacobo Arenas Column. Police destroyed the facilities and seized the cocaine as part of Operation Republic 42 in the Cauca villages of Agua Blanca and Comedulce. Officers also confiscated 600 kilograms of calcium chloride, a solution that’s used to make cocaine. In the U.S. state of Florida, authorities arrested three suspects in connection with the seizure of more than four kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, according to Lee Bentley, the U.S. Attorney for the middle district of Florida. Bentley made the announcement on Sept. 5. The arrests and seizure of crystal methamphetamine broke up a drug trafficking ring that was transporting crystal methamphetamine from México to Florida. Federal authorities identified the suspects as Luis Acosta, 34, of Crescent City, Fla.; Juan Espinoza, 33, of Crescent City; and Enrique Muñoz, 41, of Del Rio, Texas. Each of the suspects are facing a possible maximum sentence of life in prison if they are convicted of federal charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. U.S. authorities arrested the three suspects in the city of Jacksonville during “Operation Glass House.” The methamphetamine seized was worth about $750,000 (USD). Authorities accuse Acosta, Muñoz, and Espinoza of engaging in a conspiracy to obtain and distribute methamphetamine across state lines. The methamphetamine ultimately was distributed throughout northeast Florida, according to U.S. federal court documents. “Methamphetamine, you know, is a tremendous problem in many parts of Florida,” Bentley said during a press conference. “It is in Putnam County, but the operation we conducted here is a success and is going to go a long way in tamping back the problem. We want drug dealers bringing meth and other poisons into Putnam County to know that federal law enforcers are absolutely committed to investigating and prosecuting these individuals to the fullest extent of the law.”last_img read more
